Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards

Opens with a nose full of black cherries and plums, complemented by notes of baking spice, orange zest and tobacco. The palate is lively, with ripe deep fruit, plenty of acidity and smooth tannins. This is a lively version of merlot that retains its sense of energy due to the 2017 vintage which had a very cool Autumn allowing grapes to retain acidity. A charmer through and through. Merlot from Washington State is a much underappreciated varietal, usually overshadowed by the spectacular Cabernet that is grown here. You want one (or more) of these bottles! Our Shameless Hussy wines don't take themselves too seriously. You don't have to slosh them around in your mouth and pontificate over them. You can just drink them! 8.5/20 Points. Rand Sealey. Review of Washington Wines. "Although not labeled as such, this is 100% Merlot from the Greg Jones Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope. It shows a ruby color and ripe aromas of raspberry, cherry, plum, red roses, mulberry and stick incense. The flavors are supple yet substantial, with plenty of red fruits that are accompanied by notes of red licorice, cola, medium roast coffee and Wahluke scorched earth. The back picks up gently pressed berries, toasted nuts, cherry liqueur and light oak (25% new American) followed by a moderate tannin and acid finish."
